Langtang Trekking Region
The Langtang trekking region, squeezed between the icy glaciers of the Himalaya and the Tibetan border, lies north of Kathmandu in central Nepal. Perfect for beginners and those with less holiday time in Nepal, Langtang offers easy to challenging different trekking trails with long, steep climbs and descents, often through deep forests or across Glacier Mountains and interesting villages with well-established lodges along the trails. Most of the trekking trails in the Langtang region pass through 4,700 meters (15,419 feet) in altitude with excellent views of both the Annapurna Himalayan mountain range to the west and the Makalu region to the east. The main highlight of this region is natural and cultural diversity. The Langtang Valley itself is green, full of beautiful flora and small communities scattered along the valley. The trek also passes by Buddhist monasteries along the route. Inhabited by the Sherpa and Tamang people of the northern Himal, the region offers to trekkers a glimpse of the unique cultural heritage. The traditional industry of butter production and its transport to Tibet and Kathmandu support the local economy.
The major trekking areas covered in Langtang region are Langtang, Gosainkunda, Helambu & Panch Pokhari. The most popular and sacred lakes in the region are: Gosainkunda, Parvatikunda, Bhairavkunda, Dudhkunda where Hindu and Buddhist pilgrims visit on the full moon day in the month of August. The region offers splendid varieties of natural and cultural diversity with spectacular Himalayan views.
Langtang National Park which lies within Langtang trekking region is the home to a rich variety of flora and fauna. The park is enriched with pine, spruce and juniper forests and famous for natural habitat of the red panda, different kinds of deer and many species of birds. Due to a wide range of altitudinal and climatic variations, plants of all major ecological zones: tropical, sub-tropical, temperate, alpine and sub-alpine are found here.
The best part of the Langtang region trekking is that we can complete the longest trek even in 14-days and most of the treks are easily accessible from Kathmandu. It makes us very easy to organize and would be the best option for those with limited holiday time or looking for an easy introductory trekking in Nepal.
