Overview

Nepal holds a unique position in Buddhism’s history for being the birthplace of its founder. Some pilgrimage places in Nepal are connected to the life of Lord Buddha and captivate travelers at every step along the Buddhist trail.  In Kathmandu you will visit Boudhanath Stupa Kopan Monastery, Swoyambhunath, Namoboudha, Pharping Monastery, Lumbini and Tilaurakot. Lumbini is a UNESCO World Heritage site and a popular pilgrimage for Buddhists all over the world. The Sacred Garden in Lumbini has created an atmosphere of peace, spirituality, universal brotherhood and non-violence consistent with the time and Buddha’s message to the world. There are many important monuments in the sacred garden  like Mayadevi Temple, Marker Stone, Ashoka Pillar, Pushkarini Pond which all are worth visiting. There are many  Buddhist stupas in Lumbini  built  by Thailand, China , Sri Lanka, Japan and Myanmar.

 At Kathmandu Durbar square you will visit ancient Royal Palace with different temples dating  back from the 15th to the 18th century. The house of the living goddess, the ferocious Kal Bhairav, the red monkey god and hundreds of erotic carvings are a few examples of the sights at the square. Namoboudha monastery is another pilgrimage site 45 km away from Kathmandu. It is  a famous Buddhist spot, where Lord Buddha (on 7th re-incarnation) sacrificed his body to hungry Tigress and its cubs. During the tour you will see the Buddhist monks and nuns chanting religious hymns, making offerings and listening to sermons and devotees throng into every magnificent sacred site.

Itinerary

Arrive at the Tribhuwan international airport where you will be welcomed by our representative and transferred to your hotel. This day is simply an arrival day and there will be no any organized activities. So, you will have some free time to relax or walk around for local sights. A pre-departure meeting will be held in the evening and you will be introduced with our Tour Leader  Overnight at hotel in Kathmandu

After breakfast you will visit Boudhanath Stupa and Kopan Monastery.  Kopan Monastery was founded by Lama Yeshe and Lama Zopa Rimpoche in 1971 as a center of Buddhist Teachings. Here you will meet senior monks and get  orientation on Buddhism at Kopan Monastery. Lunch will be served (vegetarian). In the evening  you will return to Hotel. Overnight at hotel

After breakfast we will drive you  to Namoboudha (45 km.), Buddhists call it "Tagmologin", the famous Buddhist spot, where Lord Buddha (on 7th re-incarnation) sacrificed his body to hungry Tigress and its cubs. In the evening you will return to Hotel in Kathmandu. Overnight at hotel

After breakfast you will  visit Pharping Monastery. The Buddhist history says, Milerapa from Tibet took one night shelter in the cave  and accordingly blessed this monastery. Hindus have their version that it was Pancha Pandav who had visited this place. Vegetarian lunch will be served. In the evening you will return to Hotel in Kathmandu. Overnight at hotel

After breakfast you will visit Kathmandu Durbar Square- The Old Royal Palace of Kathmandu, Temple of living goddess Kumari, the Jagannath temple, 17th century temple known for colorfully painted erotic carvings, and Swayambhunath ,2000 years old Buddhist shrine in Nepal. It is  situated on the top of the hill west of Kathmandu  city. The temple is colloquially known as the “Monkey Temple”. There are many small buildings and shrines down the hillside behind Swayambhunath. In the evening you will return to Hotel in Kathmandu. Overnight at hotel

 After breakfast at Hotel either you can Fly (45 min.) or Drive (7 hrs) from Kathmandu to Lumbini, birth place of Lord Buddha, Arrive in Lumbini.and check in hotel. Visit Maya Devi Temple, Myanmar temple and the Lumbini museum. Lumbini is the biggest pilgrimage for Buddhists from all over the  world..Lunch either on the way to Lumbini from Kathmandu or at hotel in Lumbini, if flying. In the afternoon  you will visit  the Sacred Garden. Overnight stay at hotel

Excursion to Tilaurakot (25km) to the west, the ancient capital of Kapilvastu, the Kingdom of the Sakya Dynasty in which Lord Buddha was born. In the afternoon you will visit monastery area  and Lumbini Village. Overnight at Hotel.

After breakfast at hotel you will either fly or drive to Kathmandu. After reaching Kathmandu, you may take a rest in hotel or do some souvenir shopping. Overnight at hotel

Your Buddhist pilgrimage tour  in Nepal comes to an end today! A representative from Himalayan Glimpse Adventure will take you to the airport approximately 3 hours before the scheduled flight.
