Makalu region is one of the most remote and least visited areas in the eastern region of Nepal. This remote region extends from Sagarmatha (Mt Everest) National Park, between the high plateaus of Tibet and the deep subtropical gorge carved by the Arun River in the east. It offers a mix of rich cultural heritage, unsurpassed beauty and ecological diversity.
The trail takes you from the steamy lowlands of Tumlingtar on the Arun valley to the base camp of Makalu (8475m.). On the route you come across high waterfalls, deep gorges, craggy rocks lush green forests, and blooming of colorful flowers beneath the snow-clad peaks. Rare species of animals and plants are found in diverse climates and habitats. While trekking we cross several high passes as we climb into the remote Barun Valley at the base of Makalu, the world's fifth highest mountain. Makalu trek gives an opportunity for adventurous lovers.
We begin our trekking journey with a 35 –minute flight from Kathmandu to Tumlingtar and follows the trail through several Sherpa settlements, terraced fields, dense forest of rhododendron and several high mountain passes before getting to Makalu Base Camp. From a view point above Makalu Base Camp we enjoy spectacular views of the world's highest mountains, including Everest (8,848m), Lhotse (8,516m), Makalu (8,463m), Chamlang (7,319m) and Baruntse (7,220m).
