Lhotse is the fourth highest mountain in the world. Its long east-west ridge is located just south of Mount Everest and the summits of the two mountains are connected by the South Col, a vertical ridge that never drops below 8,000 meters. Lhotse is sometimes mistakenly identified as the south peak of the Everest massif. No serious attention was turned to climbing Lhotse until after Everest had finally been ascended. In addition to the main summit, there are two subsidiary peaks, Lhotse Shar, which is immediately east of the main summit and Nuptse, a high peak on the mountain’s west ridge.
We begin Lhotse expedition after a scenic flight to Lukla, following the Everest base camp route. We set up our base camp beside the Khumbu Glacier same as base camp of Everest. The first ascent of Lhotse massif was accomplished successfully in 1956 by two Swiss, Fritz Luchsinger and Ernest Reiss via the West Face. The South Face though attempted many times got successfully climbed only in 1984 by a Czech expedition team. It would be a great opportunity for the motivated climber to summit Lhotse with our experienced Sherpa climbers and best logistical support.
