Jiri to Everest Base Camp trek is most popular trekking route of the Everest region. In the year 1953 two world 's renowned figures- Sir Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgey Sherpa had used the same route for Mt. Everest expedition. After an eight hour scenic drive from Kathmandu to Jiri, your trek begins next day morning, passing through the lower parts of Everest region that are relatively undeveloped as compared to upper part of Solukhumbu district particularly Thame area. On this trek you will experience different culture and tradition of the diverse ethnic groups of people. The trail passes through numerous villages of different ethnic groups belonging to Tamang, Jirel, Rai, Brahmin, Chettri and of course the Sherpa . Walking along this trek involves many ascents and descents but the trail is well served with tea houses and good campsites in most of the villages. This trek helps trekkers to acclimatize slowly en route, while enjoying a number of stunning attractions such as walk through lovely forests, visit several Buddhist Monasteries, enjoy Sherpa hospitality and mesmerizing the spectacular views of Everest, Ama Dablam and many others. It is about 190km/120miles long and the total altitude gained on the innumerable uphill portions will be 9000m – much higher even than Mt. Everest. After Namche we follow the main trail to base camp with all its attractions. Each year around 1000 trekkers prefer Jiri to Everest Base Camp route. On Jiri to Everest Base Camp trek one should be physically fit and have capability to resist challenges of unpredictable mountain life.
