Trip Overview

This high altitude lodge-based trek takes you to Gokyo Lake, lies at 5000 m on the eastern shore of Gokyo village in Everest region. Our trek begins at Phakding following the most popular trekking route through Sherpa land, past Dudh Koshi River, cultivated fields, small settlements, Sagarmatha National Park up to Namche Bazaar. Whilst trekking you will get an opportunity to explore different places along the route, experience Sherpa culture, lifestyle of Sherpa community and visit Buddhist monasteries, serene Gokyo valley, and the world's highest freshwater Gokyo Lake. Climbing the summit of Gokyo Ri (5483 m) nearby Gokyo Lake, you will be fascinated by the beautiful sights of Everest, Lhotse, Cho Oyu, Makalu and Ngozumpa glacier more closely.

After walking over a steep rocky path by the side of the glacier, you will explore the first lake, the second lake and the third lake one after another. The third lake is known by the local name as Dudh Pokhari and on its eastern shore lies Gokyo village. When you reach the Gokyo valley you will spend two full days for relaxation and excursion in and around the valley. You are advised to take a packed lunch on a side trip as there is no human settlement beyond Gokyo village. On your side trip you will visit to fourth and fifth lakes as well. All these five lakes are located at an elevation of 4800 m. The third lake is considered the largest one. The alpine pastures and sloping mountains of the U-shaped Gokyo valley support a number of endangered species of flora and fauna.

As you trek through a high altitude in the upper Khumbu you must be careful the possibility of altitude sickness. So, we advise you to keep yourself hydrated and walk slowly.
