Nepal Jungle Safari
Nepal covers around 18 percent of its land as protected area - either known as national parks or wildlife reserves. While the high Himalayas make up Nepal's northern region, the southern lowland known as "Terai" is covered with dense tropical jungles teeming with diverse wildlife and exotic birds. Here you will find some of the exciting safari destinations in the world. Among the 14 national parks and wildlife reserves in Nepal, the Chitwan National Park (932sq-km), Bardiya National park (968sq-km) and Koshi Tappu Wildlife Reserve (175sq-km) are the most popular safari destinations. These Parks and Reserves are homes to many rare wild animals including the Royal Bengal Tiger, endangered one-horned rhino, crocodile, four-horned antelope, striped hyena, the Gangetic dolphin, and more than 550 different species of colorful birds. Our Jungle safari package tour includes going into deep jungle on elephant back to view the wildlife, ride canoe on the rivers to see Crocodile and water birds, nature walk, bird watching, native village tour and cultural show. All these parks are easily accessible by road and by flights. Many adventurers also take rafting trip to go down. However, the safari trip in Nepal would be a great experience you will never forget in lifetime.
Bardia National Park
Bardia National Park is one of the largest but the least explored and not crowded among the others. It is situated in the far west Terai region in Nepal with an area of 968 sq. km. It is thickly forested by Sal trees, and is carpeted with grass, savannah and deep forest. It is home to endangered species like the rhinoceros, wild elephant, tiger, swamp deer, black buck, gharial, crocodile and Gangetic dolphin. Endangered birds include the Bengal florican, lesser florican, silver- eared mesia and sarus crane. The Bardia National Park was initially a Royal hunting reserve. It was in 1982 the park was renamed as Royal Bardia Wildlife Reserve which also included the Babai River Valley. It was only in 1988 that is was granted a status of National Park in order to preserve the dwindling species of rare ecosystem, including flora and fauna, particularly the tiger and its other prey species. This park provides excellent habitat for most of the endangered species of wildlife and birds. Since 1994 basic facilities were provided for independent visitors.
Best Time to Visit
The best time to visit Bardia National Park is from October to April as the weather is usually dry, with warm days and the cool nights.. From mid-April the temperature begins to rise and the days become hot and humid. The temperature can reach up to 45ºC in May. In June the monsoon rainy season begins and continues through September. It is unwise to visit the park during the monsoon season as the rains can last for days and transportation is severely limited by the extremely poor conditions of the roads.
